Extra Tall Pop Up Tents – Which Are The Tallest?

If you are a tall, gangly man like me, getting in and out of tents has probably not always been easy. I am 75″ tall (190 cm) and getting in and out of tents can be a real hassle. The amount of times I got rainwater in my neck as my coat brushed against a wet vestibule… In case I want to marry convenience with comfort, it is reasonable for me to find an extra tall pop up tent.

Pop up tents with small doors present a challenge. Small pop up tents mean small, short doors and difficulty getting in out. For this reason I tried to find some extra tall pop up tents.

For each product I tried to find out how waterproof they are, how tall they are and how many people can stay in them. I think these are the main factors influencing whether you will buy a tent or not. So here is the list of extra tall pop up tents from Amazon.

As you can see even extra tall pop up tents are not really tall compared to regular tents. I am afraid the best extra tall pop up tent for camping the market can offer is the TPS Instant Pop Up Tent. Even though with 160 cm I would not consider it a tall tent otherwise.

Are Pop Up Tents Taller Than Regular Tents?

On average, regular tents tend to be taller than pop-up tents. Pop up tents are easier and faster to set up. However they suffer in durability and their poles are softer and bendable. You just never see pop up tents with aluminium poles that would be the prerequisite of really tall tents and stable structures.

Since you have to assemble the pole structure of regular tents separately, there is more room to manoeuvre when it comes to design. Regular tents can come in a variety of sizes and styles, plus they can have a standing room, which is the tallest room of any tent.

Benefits Of Tall Pop Up Tents

Imagine being able to stand up in your tent freely. No more crouching or crawling. A luxury taller individuals or those with mobility challenges will surely appreciate. Heightened comfort is a clear win. Tall pop up tents mix the comfort of large, tall inner space with the ease of set up you expect from any pop up tent.

Despite their towering stature, you’d be surprised at how easy tall pop up tents are to set up. Their assembly is far from complicated. I find this a big win as a frequent solo backpacker. I don’t need any helping hands to

Downsides Of Tall Pop Up Tents

However, it’s only fair to mention that these tents come with their own set of compromises. The stability they offer in tough weather conditions might not match up to that of a regular, low-profile tent.

It is hard to find a tall family pop up tent. Simply the pole structure could not be both bendable and secure enough to allow for such a huge tent to exist. I bet you won’t find pop up tents with elaborate, separate rooms either. By design their makeup must be easy and simple.

Why There Are No Extra Tall Pop Up Tents On The Market?

The lack of extra-tall pop-up tents in the market isn’t due to a lack of trying from manufacturers. Their hands are tied, really. The taller the tent, the more it’s at the mercy of Mother Nature and her unpredictable gusts.

When we’re talking about tents, height actually plays a crucial role in its overall stability, particularly when the weather turns foul. Manufacturers are constantly trying to hit that sweet spot between convenience (because who doesn’t love a pop-up?), roominess (because being able to stand up in your tent is a luxury we all want), and waterproofing.

Even with the latest advancements in materials and design, crafting the perfect, sky-high pop-up tent remains elusive. The best, extra tall pop up tent I found was the TPS Instant Pop Up Tent, with its 63″ height. Quite impressive compared to the other pop up tents on the market!
