Best Multi Room Tent – Merging Comfort And Privacy

A multi-room tent is quite literally what it sounds like, a tent that has multiple rooms. It’s an ideal choice for a large family or a group of friends going on a camping trip together, offering a more homely environment with separate sleeping and living spaces. These tents offer privacy and comfort while maintaining communal living aspects, fostering a true sense of camaraderie and togetherness.

Multi-room tents are best suited for longer camping trips where comfort, rather than portability, is a priority. They are perfect for family reunions, group camps, or any event where multiple people need to share accommodation.

Best Multi Room Tents

S’more Camping Tent

S'more Maroom one of the best multi room tent available.

What I love about the S’more is the layout of the rooms. You have a corridor in the middle, with one room on each side. Two doors make it easy to move in and out of the tent. Basically you will have the privacy you need, never feel crammed in and will be able to move freely in and out of the tent. Not to mention the luxurious 130 x 126-inch porch with 7 feet of standing room.

The tent has a dome tent structure. Basically the poles are pre-bent, so the internal space is as big as it can be without sacrificing a lot of wind resistance. The S’more Maroom is available in 6/8 and 10 person versions.

The small features in the tent are just as impressive. There are multiple small pockets in each room. The zippers are sturdy, they will stand up to any wear and tear.

It has a 3000 mm waterproof rating, which is definitely in the higher realms in terms of multiple room tents. There are multiple features available to prevent condensation. First of all, the covered porch area means you can keep the door open even while it rains. This certainly helps with air circulation. Secondly, the four mesh windows on the sides allow a lot of air flow. Plus, you find an adjustable vent at the back. You can open or close it as you like.

Vidalido 2 Room Camping Tent

Vidalido 2 room tent

This is the ideal multi room tent for a small family that plans on camping in an extremely sunny area. It has multiple sunshade canopies. The whole family can sit in the shades. The inside is so well ventilated. There are 3 mesh doors, 2 mesh windows and a mesh top, there is not much more you can ask for in terms of ventilation.

The product is available in 4 person and 6 person models. Basically it fits between 4-6 sleeping bags comfortably. There is one separator wall in the middle, making this a two room tent. The size of the Vidalido multi room tent is ‎126″L x 82.6″W x 70.8″H.

As a downside the tent has only 1500 mm HH waterproofing. The poles are made of fiberglass. All in all it is a water resistant 3 season tent, but not waterproof.

KTT Extra Large 12 Person, 2 Room Tent

KTT Extra Large Multi Room Tent

The biggest reason this tent made it to this list is its price. It is not the most sophisticated or best designed multi room tent. However it gets the job done and cost less than $200.

It also has a dome tent design, with almost straight walls. Even though it does not have a designated front porch, but you can put up the door and secure it with 2 poles to create a sunshade canopy.

The tent comes with two repair patches. A small touch, but can help you to deal with damages that inevitably happen when you go camping with little kids.

There is one important feature of this tent, that is both a blessing and a curse. The top is made of high density mesh. This allows you to watch the stars from your bed, and feel the summer breeze on your skin while sleeping. On the flip side it means the tent is not waterproof. It is rated only at 600 mm, so you might as well say it is not waterproof at all.

There is one separator wall in the middle. This means you can’t use this tent if your children need separate room. You can have one room with your spouse and one for the kids. There is only one room at the front of the tent, so whoever wants to exit or come in has to go through that front door.

Why Are Multi Room Tents Great For Big Family Camping?

What is the best thing about having a big house with a big family? Everybody has their own personal space! Multi room tents are exactly the same. As much as you love your family, there is no way you can spend days in the same, small cramped space together without getting on each other’s nerves. In a multi room tent, thanks to the separator walls everybody has their own space and can get much needed alone time.

What Are The Pros Of Owning A Multi Room Tent?

  • Personal space: Everybody has their own area, and you don’t have to conform to the whims of others you are camping with.
  • Own storage space: Large family tents often have mesh inner pockets. You have your own space to store your items.
  • Designated cooking room: The issue with cooking inside the tent is the moist can cause condensation. In a multi room tent you can set up the stove in the most ventilated room.
  • Multiple doors: The more doors you have, the easier it is to get in and out of a tent.
  • Own bedtime: I love siestas! In a huge family tent with multiple rooms I can just go to my own quarter, enjoy a nice nap while the others can cook, play or carry on their busy day!
  • Better waterproofing: In case your tent starts leaking in one area, you can always vacate that room and just use the others. Basically with multiple room tents you can keep on camping even if disaster strikes.

What Are The Cons of Multiple Room Tents?

No tent is perfect. Even the best designed huge family tents with separate rooms have their downsides. Here are a few.

  • It is very rare to find multi room four season tents. Basically they are too big and clunky to stand up to tough winds.
  • Price is a big issue. Huge family tents are arguably one of the priciest products, getting your purchase wrong can be a costly mistake.
  • Some of these tents are only water resistant, not waterproof. Usually waterproof ratings are not one of the priorities of large family tent manufacturers.
  • Set up times can be very long. Some multi room family tents take up to an hour to assemble.
  • They are not backpacking tents. They weight too much to carry over long distances by hand.

Features Of The Best Multi Room Tents

As I wrote above, a huge family tent is a big investment getting it wrong can be a costly mistake. Let’s see which points the best multi room tent has to check in order for it to be worthy.

Size

Choosing the right size for your multi-room tent is crucial. Consider the size of your family, the amount of gear you bring along, and the level of privacy required. Can your kids sleep together, or do they need separate bedrooms? Do you need one extra designated kitchen? Always count one extra room for your gear!

How much space you need

Space isn’t just about sleeping quarters; it’s also about living space. A good multi-room tent will offer ample space for movement and storage. Don’t compromise on this! When it comes to space in multi room tents, more is better!

Versatile design

A tent with a versatile design can adapt to various camping situations. Whether you’re camping in the summer or winter, a multi-room tent with adjustable ventilation and removable dividers is a must. Choose a tent that has a front porch. It is even better to have double layer windows.

Durability

Investing in a durable tent is non-negotiable. Look for multi-room tents constructed with strong, high-quality materials to withstand the rigors of outdoor conditions.

How weatherproof the tent is

A tent’s ability to resist rain, wind, and harsh sunlight is crucial. Weatherproof tents with a high hydrostatic head rating and UV protection are ideal for staying dry and protected. I suggest getting a tent with at least 2000 mm hydrostatic head rating.

Ease of set up

For your convenience, opt for a tent that’s easy to set up. Some multi-room tents feature color-coded poles and quick-pop mechanisms that significantly reduce setup time.

The type of floor

Tent floors endure a lot of wear and tear, so it’s important they’re robust. Tents featuring bathtub-style floors made from tough, waterproof material are excellent at keeping the inside of your tent dry and clean. Some tents will feature the hydrostatic head of the tent floor. For me any where over 5000 mm is good.
