The best tents under 100 dollars are not the most waterproof, durable, or easiest to assemble. However you can find good products that do a decent job at all of these.

Best Tents Under 100 Dollars

1. Moon Lence Camping Tent

I am fan of this tent simply because it does what it sets out to do and promises without any fuss. As I wrote in my long review, for around $60 you get 62.4 square feet of water resistant shelter.

It is a simple, waterproof, easy to set up shelter that will comfortably house 2 people for the night.

Unfortunately it has some negatives as well. It is not the most waterproof tent on the list, with only a 1000 mm HH rating. I would recommend applying an extra waterproofing at home for best results.

Even though the room inside is really big, I find the lack of vestibules a miss. You need to store your wet, dirty stuff inside the main tent. This is an inconvenience.

Who Do I Recommend It For?

Novice backpackers who plan on hiking in dry areas, where you don’t expect a lot of rain.

If you plan on backpacking in a dray area, in the summer months with your significant other, the Moon Lence Camping Tent is one of the best tents under 100 dollars. The tent is 2.9 kgs(5.95 lbs), which is an alright weight for a backpacking tent.

2. Coleman Sundome

The Coleman Sundome is one of the longest running, most bought tents of recent years. It has different size models, available in 2/3/4/6 person models.

As the name suggest, it has a dome shape. With ‎120″x84″x48″ it is a pretty big tent for a 2 person version. Unfortunately It has a very small rainfly. It gives very little waterproofing and not a huge protection when it comes to sheltering you from the rain. The rainfly is usually not big enough to qualify them as real 3 season tents with adequate waterproofing.

For one person it takes around 10 minutes to set it up, which is consistent with what you would expect from the best tents under 100 dollars. It has fibreglass poles, you have to attach these two poles to the outside of the tent walls.

It is a little on the heavy side, with 7.5 lbs(3.4 kgs) making it definitely one of the heaviest tents on this list. However I get the impression Coleman designed this tent more for using it in real campsites. It even has a little side opening to run an electricity cord into the tent.

Who Do I Recommend It For?

Well, there is not much extraordinary about the Coleman Sundome tent. However it’s longevity in the market proves that it can get a good job done.

I think due to its heavy weight, and lack or real waterproofness it is best if you want to use it in an established campground with electricity. You can also buy it for your kids to set up in the garden, for the summer.

3. Night Cat Pop Up Tent

As an outdoor enthusiast, I’m always on the hunt for gear that enhances my camping experience without breaking the bank. And let me tell you, the Night Cat Pop Up Tent has been a game changer! I had it pitched within minutes of reaching my campsite, leaving me more time to soak in my surroundings.

Long time readers of TentBroker are probably already fed up with how much I write about this tent, and how many times I have recommended it!

What I particularly love about this tent is how incredibly lightweight it is. No more lugging around heavy gear on my back. It’s compact, fits into a handy circular bag, and easily fits in my car trunk.

It is one of the taller pop up tents on the market. It has two big doors, no more crawling on all fours to get inside!

But let me tell you the best part – the space inside is fantastic. I do enjoy camping with friends and family, and this tent has room enough for all of us to sit, chat, and sleep comfortably. The ventilated design keeps it cool even on hot summer days.

It is available in two different versions, 2 persons and 3-4 people versions. The 2 people version is ‎114″L x 79″W x 48″H. The 3-4 person version is ‎141.7″L x 90.6″W x 51.2″H but costs 149 dollars.

Who Do I Recommend It For?

As far as pop up tents go, this model offers the best of its kind. It is really spacious, easy to set up and really waterproof as well. I recommend it for camping in case you don’t want to wander off really far into the forest, and you don’t want to spend time with setting up the tent. Think of bbq parties, fishing, maybe a school camping trip for your kid. If you’re searching for the best tents under 100 dollars, I’d definitely recommend you give this one a go!

However don’t use this tent in heavy wind areas or places where you are completely in the open, without any protection that you get from trees. The big negative of pop up tents is the lack of structure and protection the pole structure gives you.

4.Amflip Camping Tent

The big positive of the Amflip camping tent is the little outer tarpaulin that protects the door. It is a little better protection than the usual rainflies that you have in most tents under 100 dollars.

It is pretty spacious for a 2 person tent, with 96″L x 81″W x 44″H dimensions. I have to say the name is quite confusing, as it is marketed as a pop up tent even though it is not. It has regular fibreglass poles.

It is probably one of the best waterproof tents under 100 dollars. It has 3000 mm HH waterproof rating, which flirts with 4 season rating, but definitely does the job as a three season tent.

Since it is a single wall tent, you can have some issues with condensation during the night. I suggest you open the two big doors whenever it is not raining to keep the air fresh and circulating. I case you don’t want to let little critters inside, you can close the doors with an inner mesh layer.

On the negative side it is a pretty heavy tent. It is 9.05 lbs (4.1 kg) heavy. That is on the heavy side for backpacking. Even though it is spacious, well designed and one of the most waterproof tents under 100 dollars, I can’t help but think this is too much weight to carry as a backpacker.

Who Do I Recommend It For?

Couples who are more regular campers. In case you don’t mind the extra weight, this is a durable, well designed tent that can take the wear and tear of multiple camping trips. It can do a great job for you on multiple trips.

5. KAZOO Family Camping Tent

What I love most about the KAZOO tent is how well they designed it. The attention to detail is really something else. It is one of the most durable tents on the list, and to be fair it has no business being this great for under 100.

As a unique thing on this list, it has two small vestibules. This greatly helps keep the insides clean, as you can have your dirty stuff in the vestibules.

It is a really tall tent. I am quite big (190 cm) but could easily sit up inside and had no problems getting in and out of the tent.

With 2.4 kgs it is a really lightweight tent for its size and quality. Really well suited for backpacking!

It is a double wall tent, so has great ventilation and protection against condensation. As a plus, this is also one of the most waterproof tents that you can get for under 100 dollars.

There is only one big negative that I could mention. It takes longer to set up than most tents. Its pole structure is quite elaborate. On the other hand you can view this as a positive, as it means the tent can withstand heavy winds and strong rains.

Who Do I Recommend It For?

The KAZOO clears everything I would want to find in the best tent under 100 dollars. It has great waterproofing, strong design but still light weight. I can wholeheartedly recommend it for all backpackers and campers!

6. Night Cat Backpacking Tent

There is nothing remarkable about this tent really, other than its extremely low price. It does a decent job. A lightweight, quite narrow tent with decent stability. However don’t expect much durability or extra features. But for a price so low there is not much to bargain for.

As one of its biggest positives is its internal height. 86.6″L x 47″W x 47″H. It is very fast and easy to set up.

Even though it is marketed as a three season tent, it has only 1500 mm HH waterproofing. I would not recommend to tackle anything more with it than summer showers.

Who Do I Recommend It For?

It is clear that Night Cat wanted to target entry level campers with this product. If you are a solo backpacker, looking to experiment cheaply, this should be your choice!

7. Coleman Skydome Camping Tent

The Coleman Skydome has two big selling points. First, it takes almost no time to set it up thanks to pre-attached fibreglass poles. Second, it is really spacious inside, as its walls are almost vertical.

Its dimensions (23.5″L x 6.5″W x 6.5″H) make it one of the most spacious tents under 100 dollars. For a 2 person tent it is one of the best tents under 100 dollars.

Unfortunately it is quite heavy, with 7.74 lbs (3.5 kg). This is a bit concerning as it is only weather resistant, not waterproof.

Who Do I Recommend It For?

I recommend the Coleman Skydome as a camping tent in areas where you don’t expect a lot of rain. It is really spacious, big, but not light enough for long backpacking trips.
