Waterproofing: Both the Mongar 2 and Star River 2 has 4000 mm waterproof rain fly and ground floor. The two tents are exactly the same in terms of waterproofness.
Price: The Naturehike Mongar 2 cost around 10$ more due to the small details and extra features.
All in all we can conclude that these two tent types are quite similar. However the Naturehike Mongar 2 is designed with better attention to detail and as a result costs a little bit more.
My Experiences With The Naturehike Star River 2 vs Mongar 2
Basically the biggest difference in design and where the Naturehike Mongar 2 is superior is the rainfly. Even though the two tents have very similar designs, the Mongar 2 has two vestibules. I am a big fan of vestibules. Basically I can leave my dirty boots out of the tent. It is easier to keep it clean inside, plus I have much more space. The other big plus of having two vestibules is when it comes to ventilation. By leaving the vestibules open you can leave the air flowing even when it rains. The Star River 2 has two doors as well, but there is nothing to cover it unless you keep the rainfly totally closed.
When it comes to the bathtub floor it is really nice to see that both of them have the floor reaching quite high. This gives you adequate protection even if the wind blows very hard.
The rainfly is 4000 mm waterproofed. This is a really high rating for backpacking tents. Overall you are protected from whatever mother nature might throw at you.
I love how easy it is to attach the fly to the rest of the tent. You just pop it into a light hook and that’s it. On the other hand the fly reaches really low, which can protect you even in heavy snowfalls.
