Night Cat Pop Up Tent Review: Amazing Spacious Tent With Short Set Up Time
The Night Cat Pop Up tent was the very first pop up tent I ever reviewed. The pictures on its Amazon page looked good, but I didn’t know what to believe. Would the Night Cat Pop Up Tent worth its price tag?($84 in 12.2023) Read my unbiased Night Cat Pop Up tent review to find out what I thought of this waterproof tent.
First Impressions
How is the Night Cat Pop Up Tent different to its competitors? The definition of Pop Up Tent makes it very clear:
A pop up tent is ready for use as soon as it is unfolded, without having to build a frame first.
Cambridge Dictionary
So for me there were two questions that would decide if I could give the Night Cat Pop Up tent a positive review:
- Is it really so fast and easy to set up? Does it ,,pop up” immediately after removing it from the package?
- Does the pop up design hinder the rest of the tent in any way? Is it big enough? How waterproof is it? Does it have good ventilation?
With these in mind, I can attest that the Night Cat Pop Up tent was one of the most positive surprises I had since I started TentBroker. From the moment I got my hands on the package, I knew I had something special.
When I removed it from its carry bag, the tent did just what was expected… it popped up! Needless to say it was the fastest tent to set up! After I had some time to see the interior and inspect the craftsmanship. The seams were expertly sealed. The ventilation felt excellent. And the inner space was huge! So often tents that can barely sleep 2 people get advertised as three or four person tents. Not the case with the Night Cat Pop Up Tent! I think it can sleep even four adults, but most certainly two adults and two children.
The Good:
- Really comfortable carry bag. You can carry the tent as a backpack.(28x28x2.8in package)
- Very lightweight, the whole bag weights 3 kg.
- Extremely fast set up time. It is ready in one minute, literally!
- Great ventilation thanks to two huge doors and huge side windows.
- Huge inner space. (290x200x120cm (9.5×6.6x4ft))
- Great craftsmanship. Expertly sealed double seams!
- Thick ground floor protects you against any water seeping in, provides good insulation against the cold ground.
The Bad:
- Due to the lack of external pole structure it might not be the most stable in heavy winds.
- With 2000 mm HH waterproofing, it is in 3 season territory only.
- It has no separate vestibules, so you have to keep all your gear and maybe the dirty shoes inside the tent.
The carry bag is excellent! It is circular, you can just pop it on your back and carry the tent as a backpack. There is a strap on top, so you can also carry it in your hand. It is only 3 kgs, so if you are going camping with your family it is the perfect size for one of your children to carry.
Who Is The Night Cat Pop Up Tent Best For?
In my opinion the Night Cat Pop Up Tent is perfect for couples, or small families who want to spend their time enjoying nature instead of setting up their tent. It is big, spacious, has excellent ventilation.
How Waterproof Is The Night Cat Pop Up Tent?
If I might voice a worry I have, it is that the 2000 mm HH waterproofing is not the highest rating in this category of camping tents. Basically it is enough to survive if you get surprised by rain, but not enough to keep you dry in case you find yourself in a heavy storm that lasts for days.
All in all, I would not take it to areas where heavy rains are the norm. Otherwise it is a very good camping tent. The seams are well sealed, the ground floor is thick and protects you against the wet ground.
You don’t have to worry about ventilation, even though it is only a single wall tent. The Night Cat Pop Up Tent has two quite large windows on each side, and two doors. Both the doors and the windows are double layers, so you can close the outer layer with a zipper. The inner layer is made of mesh, so even when you have it open, the bugs won’t get inside. The doors or the windows are not really covered by anything, so when it rains you must keep them closed.
Is The Night Cat Pop Up Tent With Its Price Tag?
Absolutely, without a doubt! With under $100 tents the biggest question is are they functional, are they waterproof, can you trust them to give you dry shelter consistently. With the Night Cat Pop Up Tent the answer is a resounding yes!
On top of all this it has a great feature that sets it apart from all other tents in its price category. How easy it is to carry and set up. Packing it away is not much harder either. I would totally look to invest in the Night Cat Pop Up Tent if I had a family to go camping with!
How Fast Can You Set Up The Night Cat Pop Up Tent?
The whole set up process took me one minute. I opened the zipper on the carry bag and pulled out the tent. Removed the cord holding it all together and voila, the whole thing suddenly popped up. To adjust the tent and make it more stable, you can attach guy lines and drive stakes through the ground. This will add much needed stability against heavy winds.
Packing away the Night Cat Pop Up Tent takes a little more time. You have to fold it into a double 8 shape. This takes more strength and force, but can be done pretty fast. I would say the whole process of folding and packing it away took no more than five minutes. Still pretty good!
Night Cat Pop Up Tent Review – Design And Features
Let’s go through the features of the Night Cat Pop Up tent one by one, and find out what I thought of the design!
The Inside
The inside feels really big and spacious. I think you can sleep easily three adults in it. It is big enough even for two adults and two children. The two doors are diagonal to the ground, so you get plenty of leg space on each side. However the tent has no vestibule. This means in case it starts raining you need to keep all your wet and dirt gear inside the tent. There are two small mesh pockets, on either wall so you can store your phone or small belongings while sleeping. All in all, the inner space is huge. (290x200x120cm (9.5×6.6x4ft))
Breathability
In my opinion breathability is one of the best features of this tent. I can’t stress it enough how great the ventilation is. The two doors are huge. If you open them both you will get a constant air flow through the tent. There are two small windows, one on each side, if you open them you can gat even more flow.
Both the windows and doors are double layered. You can open with a zipper the outer layer and let the air flow while keeping the mesh inner layer closed. This way the bugs and critters can’t get inside the tent. Unfortunately nothing protects the doors from the rain unless the outer layer is closed. So you can’t really get a good ventilation while it is raining. Otherwise you risk the rainwater getting into the tent.
Footprint
It doesn’t come with a separate footprint. However the ground floor is really thick. I don’t think you need to use a footprint to protect you from the wet ground. However Amazon has a deal on a size adjusted camping tarp for this tent.
The Stakes
You get 8 regular aluminium stakes with this tent. You also get four reflective guy lines that you can attach to the tent. These can give the tent much needed stability in case of heavy winds or a storm.
Seams
I was impressed with the seams. I carefully inspected the seams connecting the ground floor and the walls, and the craftsmanship was impressive. Never a misplaced yarn. I don’t think you need to seal the seams more before you start using the tent.
Weight and Portability
Just like the short set up time and breathability, this is another strong feature of the Night Cat Pop Up Tent. The whole tent weights only 3 kgs. This is very light for a potential 4 person waterproof tent.
The tent is so easy to carry. You can put the bag on your back and carry it like a backpack. Or you can carry it in your hands. Overall I am really happy with the weight and portability.
Conclusion
My Night Cat Pop Up Tent Review ended up very positive. And for good reason. If you are looking for a 3-4 person camping tent that is extremely easy to set up, and has ok waterproofing, you can’t go wrong with the Night Cat Pop Up Tent!
